If you have never attended a drum circle before, the Siesta Key Drum Circle is a great way to start. The drum circle is a great way to gather and meet other people in a judgement-free environment. It is also a really cool way of celebrating Siesta Key culture. Everyone here dances to the beat of their own drummer because they are the drummer! Kids and adults are welcome at this year-round drum circle, just moments from our Siesta Key gulfside condos!
Every Sunday Night
Enjoy some sunset drumming in Siesta Key every Sunday night out of the year. You can come every week or just once – it doesn’t matter! Everyone comes of their own free will, but many locals have made it a weekly ritual to come and join in the celebration. Just venture on down to Siesta Key Beach, Nokomis Beach, or Englewood Beach about an hour before sunset. Yes, this does mean you will have to be aware of what time the sun is setting, but it’s okay if you don’t make it right on time.
A Celebration of Siesta Key
Siesta Key’s cultural arts community is celebrated at the drum circle. The Siesta Key Drum Circle started back in 1996 as a way for folks to gather together with their instruments and just jam. They did not want to make money or put on a show; they wanted to immerse themselves in music and friendship. The event has always been a bit spontaneous, but that is kind of how life goes in laid-back Siesta Key. Some who attend dress up in tribal attire, but you certainly do not have to dress up in order to celebrate Siesta Key’s rich native culture.
The whole concept here is fluidity. Nobody and nothing in life is linear and universal; all of us are unique but can still come together as a whole and enjoy each other’s artistry and humanity. The only rule? Be kind to others. The Golden Rule applies to everyone who sets foot inside the drum circle, old and young, male and female.
You don’t have to participate if you don’t want to. You can kick back and mellow out to the rhythms others tap out. Such is the way of life in Siesta Key! You will find out just how important this is to the people here when you relax and have some fun with it.
Dance to the Beat of Your Own Drum
If you have your own drum, bring it along with you during your vacation. It can certainly be put to use in the drum circle! Of course, if you do not have a drum, you can certainly dance along or just sit and watch – it is totally up to you how you wish to participate. Of course, if someone has an extra drum on hand, you might find them willing to lend it to you. If you have a hula hoop, you can bring that and join in! There are usually several hula hoopers in attendance.
Take note that this event happens come rain or shine. The drum circle lasts for several hours, so be prepared to stand or sit for that long. Afterward, you can hit up one of Siesta Key’s amazing restaurants and replenish the energy you spent while dancing and drumming. While you are staying at one of the lovely Siesta Key beachfront rentals, be sure to check out the drum circle. Let yourself dance to the beat of your very own drum.
