Family Things to Do in Nearby Sarasota

So, you and your family have decided to take a vacation in a relaxing location, but you also want plenty of fun family activities to do together. Your destination is very simple: Sarasota. Now, let’s say you’ve found your dream vacation rental, and you’re ready to start planning exactly how you are going to spend the time. Of course, you plan on spending plenty of time on the white sand beaches, which won’t be hard with the location of your accommodations. Wildlife Tours

The first thing you should do is take a wildlife tour through one of the many charter tours offered in Siesta Key. The charters last anywhere from 60-90 minutes depending on the company and offer you a different view of the waterways and inlets that you can see from the land. Not only do they offer you spectacular views of the scenery, but there is also a chance of seeing many different species of birds and other animals. 

Perhaps the most enticing is the chance to see pods of dolphins playing in the wake of the charter boat! Further inland, depending on your willingness to travel, you can partake in various explorations of the Myakka River State Park, or a little further, the Babcock Ranch Preserve.

Shopping

If you’re looking for something to do that is a little more local, you can head over to Ocean Boulevard and walk along looking at all the shops. There is something everyone will love on this street and plenty of restaurants to choose from for some delicious food. Westfield Sarasota Square is excellent for picking up a new, trendy piece, or head to The Shoppes at University Center or Ellenton Premium Outlets for some incredible bargains!

Nature Attractions

There are also a few various attractions to visit while staying in Siesta Key. If you’re into marine life, you should check out the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium. You can view many local and exotic creatures here, and the scientists and staff are all extremely knowledgeable. You could also visit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and view the fantastic floral collection they have. Finally, you can check out Sarasota Jungle Gardens, where you can see alligators, tortoises, and a plethora of birds!

Water Sports

One thing we suggest trying out is some of the various water sports! Kayaking, windsurfing, paddleboarding, and even parasailing are all options for you to partake in. Many different companies in the area offer any one of these things. If you are a seasoned pro at some of these activities, you can rent the necessary equipment at very competitive rates. Or, if you are looking to try some of these things out for the first time, you can request lessons from one of the many companies offering them. The best part is that the lessons can be available for the entire family and make the perfect addition to your beach vacation!
