Looking for a restaurant in Siesta Key? If you’re hankering for a hot dog, then The Old Salty Dog is the place to go!
The Old Salty Dog is a British style pub with three locations (City Island, Siesta Key, and Venice Island) that sells hot dogs, among other favorites. They also allow your pet dog into the restaurant with you!
What Does “Salty Dog” Mean?
Salty Dog is nautical slang for a sailor who has spent many, many years living on a ship at sea.
A secondary meaning comes from the outdated flea repellent practice of rubbing salt into the coat of one’s dog to deter and get rid of fleas.
In the case of our casual family restaurant, a salty dog is perhaps a dedicated patron to a hot dog establishment.
